treatment of malnutrition. These products are made in the countries in which they are needed,
thereby stimulating the local economy as well as providing life-saving products at affordable prices.
Awards
Global Ashoka Senior Fellowship Award

On 30 March 2010, Dr Steve Collins was presented with the prestigious Global Ashoka Senior Fellowship Award at a ceremony attended by the former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson. This, the first appointment of a Senior Fellow in Ireland, was given in recognition of the system-changing impact that has been brought about by the development of Community-based Therapeutic Care (CTC) and Valid Nutrition's unique social enterprise business model. The position of Senior Fellow is reserved for those whose work has already achieved considerable social impact on several continents. Other global figures who are also Ashoka Senior Fellowship award winners include Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia and Yunus Muhammad, Nobel Prizewinner and founder of the Grameen Bank, which provides loans to the poor in Bangladesh.

Irish Times Innovation Award in association with InterTrade Ireland

A major collaboration between Valid Nutrition, Concern Worldwide and Irish Aid was named winner of the Organisational Systems/Process Category at the Inaugural Irish Times All-Island Innovation Awards in association with InterTrade Ireland. The awards held at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Kilmainham on Wednesday, 24 March 2010 were attended by Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Conor Lenihan TD. Designed to recognise the best innovations in businesses across the island of Ireland, the awards were open to indigenous and international companies of all sizes operating throughout the island. Entries were based on operational, service or product innovations implemented during 2008/2009, provided the innovations were business and/or customer-focused and had a proven and quantifiable positive impact.

Institute of Management Consultants and Advisers (IMCA Award)

In 2009, the Institute of Management Consultants and Advisers (IMCA) awarded its annual medal for outstanding achievement in management jointly to Dr Steve Collins of Valid International and Tom Arnold of Concern Worldwide to mark the innovative and highly effective Community-based Therapeutic Care (CTC) approach to managing acute malnutrition in the developing world.

Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN Award)

Valid International received further international recognition with third place in the highly prestigious GAIN Business Award for Innovation in Nutrition in 2008. This highly competitive award recognises and rewards companies engaging in innovation designed to fight malnutrition, improve public health and promote sustainable development. The award was given both in recognition of Valid International’s work to develop the Community-based Therapeutic Care (CTC) model to address malnutrition and also, in large part, to recognise the creation of Valid Nutrition as a unique and novel organisation, well adapted to promote global improvement in nutrition in an efficient and economically sustainable manner.
